WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ARTS TO EDUCATION: We believe that quality arts programs in schools can contribute to the development of each student's creative thinking and problem-solving skills. We believe the Arts should be at the center of the core curriculum and should be fully integrated into the other core subjects.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ARTS IN THE CORE CURRICULUM IN OKLAHOMA: Since 1990, the Arts have been part of the core curriculum in Oklahoma and are a part of the Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS) objectives for student achievement. Students are PASS tested annually in Music and Visual Art (Grades 3-8). Oklahoma was the first State in the Nation to legislatively require the Arts (Music and Visual Arts) in 1990 as part of the core curriculum in public schools.
